Want to know how cotton fabrics do not fade, first come to understand why cotton fabrics will fade?
Cellulose fibers such as cotton are usually dyed with anionic water-soluble dyes such as direct dyes and acid dyes. These dyes have a complete chromatogram and a bright color. However, due to the structure of these dyes with water-soluble groups, the dyes are hydrophilic, and when washed, the color of the clothes tends to fade or fade. The process of discoloration will make the clothes look old; at the same time, the hydrolysis of the dye into the dye liquor will counteract the cotton clothing, resulting in staining and coloration.
Fixed color
Speaking of this, I extend a concept to everyone and fix it. As the name suggests, fixing is to improve the color fastness of fabrics; and additives that can improve various types of color fastness are called fixing agents. Next, I explained the system, how to solve the problem from the source of cotton clothes fade, stained.
Fixing agent working mechanism:
The first is dyeing on different fibers. The dyeing mechanism and color fastness are different. Therefore, the mechanism and application of dye fixing agent are also not the same.
(1) The use of cationic groups such as quaternary ammonium salts or tertiary amine salts in the dye-fixing molecules is ion-bonded with the anionic groups in the ionic dye structure, so that the dye-fixing agent forms insoluble color blocks on the fibers. , thereby improving the color fastness of dyes on fabrics.
(2) Reducing the water solubility of dyes by using the reactive groups in the dye fixing molecules and the reactive groups on the dye molecules and the hydroxyl groups on the cellulose molecules.
(3) The use of fixing agent on the fabric to improve its color fastness. During the high-temperature drying process of the dye-fixed fabrics, the reactive cross-linking groups on the fixing agent molecules self-crosslink into macromolecules to form a protective film with a certain strength on the surface of the fabrics and fibers, and the dyes are packaged. Cover the fibers so that the dye does not come off easily.
Type of fixing agent
From the principle of fixing agents, we can separate the fixing agents into two major categories: reactive fixing agents and non-reactive fixing agents.
Reactive fixatives refer to the introduction of reactive groups in the molecules of fixatives. Commonly used are epoxy groups. Such fixatives can form covalent bonds with certain groups in fiber dye molecules. The improvement of the color fastness is even more advantageous.
Non-reactive fixing agent refers to forming two kinds of water-soluble groups on the surface of fibers and blocking them, and its main types are divided into cationic fixing agents and resin fixing agents.
Daily wash protection
1 , the use of care laundry liquid: liquid laundry easier to rinse, not easy to fade, do not hurt the hand, to prevent static; laundry detergent generally contains softener, so washed out of the washing powder is more soft, comfortable and bright as new.
2 , anti-drying law: the clothes in turn drying, can prevent direct UV irradiation of most fabrics and produce fade, especially for some dark clothes is particularly effective. Try to dry your clothes in a cool, dark place as much as possible.
3 , black, red and blue and other easy to fade clothes, it is best to separate soaking and cleaning.
For pure cotton apparel, we can only pay attention to daily washing protection. Pure cotton clothes want to not fade, it is best to choose medium and high-priced clothes. The fabrics of middle and high-priced clothes will basically have a solid color, the color of the clothes will be more lasting, brighter, and more comfortable to wear at the same time.
